Publishing your changes

Nothing you do in the editor reaches buyers until you publish. That's the safety net: build, rearrange, restyle, and preview as much as you want, then push it live in one step.

Preview, then publish

Preview shows your work-in-progress exactly as it'll appear on the storefront. When it looks right, publish. Publishing a page makes that page live at its URL; publishing theme changes updates the look across the storefront.

What happens — and what doesn't

  • Edits are private until you publish. The live storefront keeps showing the last published version while you work.
  • Publishing a page affects that page; publishing the theme affects the whole store's look.
  • A brand-new store also runs a readiness checklist before its first publish — required checks (like a payment method) must pass.
  • Once published, changes are live immediately at your domain.
  • You can keep editing after publishing; the next publish ships the next round.
Do my edits go live automatically?

No. The editor holds your changes until you publish. Buyers keep seeing the last published version until then.

What's the difference between publishing a page and publishing the theme?

Publishing a page makes that one page live. Publishing theme changes updates the look across your whole storefront.

How do I check my work before it's public?

Use Preview. It renders your unpublished changes exactly as buyers will see them, so you can confirm before publishing.

What this screen looks like in every state

StateWhen you'll see itWhat you see, and what to do
EmptyYou haven't created anything here yet“No pages found” — with a shortcut to create the first one. Nothing is wrong; there's just nothing to show yet.
LoadingThe screen is fetching your dataA skeleton in the shape of the finished page. It should be brief — if it persists, the load has failed rather than stalled.
ErrorThe data couldn't be loadedA message with a retry. Retry first: most of these are a dropped request, not a broken store. If it repeats, the outage is upstream and reloading won't help.
No accessYour role doesn't include this screenA permission notice instead of the page. An owner or admin can grant access under Settings → Team.
